
Building Community Partnerships at EFHS: The Alexander Stirling Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution offered new teachers in East Feliciana Public Schools the opportunity to apply for a mini-grant for supplies and materials to support student learning in their classroom. Congratulations to Deidre Davis, exceptional student services teacher at East Feliciana High School, whose classroom was selected based on her application. Building strong partnerships with community organizations like the DAR is a priority of East Feliciana Public Schools' strategic plan.

March Goes Out Like a Lion at SES: Pre-K students at Slaughter Elementary School explored texture and color as they created their own sponge art! They had a "roaring" good time!





Springing into Creativity! To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Jackson Elementary School students made both edible and wearable art during Ms. Cannon's art classes.




Problem-Based Learning at EF STEAM: After a cold front led to the loss of the first set of tomatoes, students and teachers at the East Feliciana STEAM Academy replanted their new raised beds with squash and tomatoes.

The East Feliciana Public Schools Exceptional Student Services Department hosted their annual Transition Open House on March 28, 2023 at East Feliciana High School. Students, parents, and community members attended the event aimed at connecting families to self-advocacy, independent living, employment opportunities, and other supports. Agencies and providers talked one-on-one with parents and students seeking options to help students transition into careers and life after graduation. The goal of the Transition Open House was to make sure parents in East Feliciana Public Schools have every opportunity to be informed and advocate for their child and to empower students for self-advocacy.
The ESS Department thanks all the providers and agencies that attended this event and helped our students be a step closer to transition!
Participants included Baton Rouge Community College, Acadian Ambulance, Capital Area Developmental Disabilities, Families Helping Families, Educational Talent Search Program of Southern University and A&M College, Dixon Correction Institute, Upward Bound Program of Baton Rouge Community College and Southern University, Pelican State Credit Union, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, and Louisiana National Guard Youth Challenge Program.




Students at Slaughter Elementary practiced their social and emotional learning skills through a connection to literature. Students read real life scenarios related to impulse control and collaborated to determine steps to change the outcome.

Last month, BRProud spotlighted Jackson Elementary School's continued efforts to improve student literacy through high-quality virtual interventions provided by trained college students. These tutors are trained by expert literacy teachers at the school.


EFHS recently hosted their annual Junior Ring Ceremony for the Class of 2024. This event is a celebration of students' accomplishments in high school so far and marks a critical moment in the journey to graduation. Graduation rates at EFHS consistently exceed the state average.





Investigating Ecosystems at EF STEAM: Students at the East Feliciana STEAM Academy researched various ecosystems. They developed presentations on their research findings and shared those presentations with their classmates.


Building Research Skills at JES: Earlier this month, Ms. Ammye Smith’s 4th grade students at Jackson Elementary School researched and presented reports on Black inventors as part of a co-curricular English language arts and science project.


Students enrolled in Foundations of Education, a course on the EFHS pre-educator pathway, attended the Educators Rising Louisiana State Conference at the University of Louisiana Lafayette this month, where they learned teaching methods supporting student engagement.


EFMS students enrolled in Intro to STEM Pathways and Careers hosted a Family STEM Night! Guests of all ages had the opportunity to conduct experiments and create products across the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students successfully completing this course will earn high school credit. As part of our participation in the Reimagine School Systems initiative, East Feliciana Public Schools are building a comprehensive continuum of STEM learning across all grade levels.






Having a Bowl at JES: First grade students at Jackson Elementary School started their bowling unit in their health and physical education class last month.



Last week, students from CES, JES, EFMS, and EFHS had the opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics Louisiana - Capital Area track and field meet. Congratulations to these athletes for representing East Feliciana Public Schools with #HomegrownPride!
