MAKING A CLAIM AT EF STEAM: Sixth grade English language arts students at the East Feliciana STEAM Academy read about three different activists that fought for equal education rights, fair immigration laws, and ending child labor. They presented arguments on who they believe made the biggest impact on those around them. They formed claims stating what risks the person they chose took and supported their claim with evidence from the text. Writing and sharing evidence-based arguments is a key standard in middle grades English language arts classrooms.

SPOTLIGHT ON JES LITERACY NIGHT: Jackson Elementary School hosted a very successful Literacy Night in partnership with the Center for Literacy and Learning! Over 110 students and their parents joined for this fun event. Parents attended a presentation about their child’s DIBELS reading scores and how to support literacy at home while students participated in fun literacy activities with JES teachers. After the presentation, CLL also provided free books for all of the students and center activities for families to enjoy together.

HEART HEALTHY AT EF STEAM: Students at East Feliciana STEAM Academy have been practicing skipping rope! Skipping rope improves cardiovascular health, bone health by building bone density, agility, motor skills, balance, social interaction, coordination, rhythm, teamwork, and cooperation; and it enhances problem solving as students identify and overcome challenges they face while learning new skipping patterns and tricks, boosting their self-confidence and motivation as they master the skills.

Exciting Grant Award to Enhance School Breakfast! We are thrilled to announce that the Child Nutrition Program has been awarded a $10,000 grant from No Kid Hungry to support exciting new breakfast initiatives at our schools! Starting next school year, we will implement: ✅ A coffee bar at the high school to provide students with a popular and appealing breakfast option. ✅ Nutritious smoothies as an alternative breakfast choice. ✅ Expanded fruit offerings across all schools, including quarterly features of exotic fruits such as papaya, mango, and dragon fruit at breakfast! These enhancements aim to increase student participation, improve nutrition, and support academic success by making breakfast more engaging and enjoyable. Stay tuned for more details as we roll out these initiatives!
