Outstanding Civic Engagement

-Two first place entries, 2016-17 VFW Post 7017 Auxiliary Americanism contest

-Two third place entries, 2016-17 Louisiana VFW District 8 Auxiliary Americanism contest

-Three first place entries and one second place entry in the 2016-17 Louisiana Daughters of the American Revolution Junior American Citizens state competition

-Second Place, 2016 Louisiana District 8 Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award

Outstanding Community Involvement

-New Cub Scout pack chartered by the Istrouma Area Council

-Participants in Girls on the Run South Louisiana, Fall 2016 and Spring 2017

-State participants, Special Olympics

-Quarterly Family STEM Nights with participation from community partners like the Southern University Agricultural Extension Office

-Recipient, Bowler’s Ed Grant from International Bowling Campus Youth Development

Outstanding Academic Achievement

-5th Grade Master Readers class completed an interdisciplinary unit on musical theatre, culminating with a visit to the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans to watch a production of ‘The Lion King’

-Exceeded state average percentage at Advanced on 2015-16 5th grade math state assessments

-Increased proficiency in science from 40% on 2014-15 third grade state assessment to 57% on 2015-16 fourth grade state assessment, closing 55% of the achievement gap between JES and the state average

-Average percentile rank on 1st grade Star Reading assessment grew from 22nd percentile to 46th percentile during the 2016-17 school year

-Average percentile rank on 4th grade Star Math assessment grew from 35th percentile to 47th percentile during the 2016-17 school year
